Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Father Seelos' birth with a pilgrimage through his homeland. Join the 10 Day itinerary with the Globus through Germany and Austria and visit the most iconic places of Father Seelos' history. Francis Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R., was a German Redemptorist who worked as a missionary in the United States. Towards the end of his life, he went to New Orleans to minister to victims of yellow fever. He then died after contracting the disease. He is beloved by many, specially here in the New Orleans area, where the National Shrine of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos is located, inside St. Mary's Assumption Church
Day by Day:
Day 1 – 10 Oct (Thu) – Arrival in Munich
Welcome to Munich. Upon arrival a group transfer is provided to your hotel. Enjoy some time to relax. Later join your Tour Director and friends for a welcome dinner with Bavarian specialties followed by a drive through Munich to see the beautifully illuminated city. (Dinner)
Note: Group needs to arrive together on the same flight, or at approximately the same time, for the group transfer to the hotel. Individual transfer costs can be quoted separately.
Day 2 – 11 Oct (Fri) – Munich
Sightseeing with a Local Guide of Germany’s “Secret Capital” features the Olympic Stadium, built for the 1972 Olympics; the 1,000-foot-high Olympic Tower; The University where Father Seelos studied philosophy and began theology as a diocesan seminarian, and Königsplatz, used for Nazi rallies during World War II. Drive along the Ludwigstrasse, and see the Bavarian Arch of Triumph and Field Marshall Hall. Also visit lively MARIENPLATZ with the Old and the New Town Halls and the gothic Frauenkirche. After mass at a local church enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure. (Breakfast)
Day 3 – 12 Oct (Sat) – Munich - Augsburg – Dillingen – Fussen Area
Depart today for a visits to ST. STEPHEN'S ACADEMY in Augsburg where Father Seelos attended middle school and the ARCHDIOCESAN SEMINARY in Dillingen where he attended. Then arrive in the Fussen area for the next three nights. (Breakfast)
Day 4 – 13 Oct (Sun) – Fussen Area
Today, explore Fussen, where Father Seelos was born in 1819. Join your local guide for a sightseeing tour focusing on Franz Xavier Seelos through old town. See the home of Frau Neumaier-Aschenbrenner, the grand-niece of Father Seelos. Dinner is included tonight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Note: Group has independently arranged to celebrate Mass at St. Mang at 10:30am.
Day 5 – 14 Oct (Mon) – Fussen Area
An independently arranged private Mass at St Mang Church as been planned to celebrate where Father Seelos was baptized. Afternoon sightseeing includes the impressive KLOSTER ST MANG, a large former monastery. The crypt of the Klosterkirche has the oldest wall paintings in Bavaria dating from around AD 1000. Also visit FRANZISKANERKLOSTER, a former Franciscan Monastery with its wonderful view of old town, the castle and monastery. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 6 – 15 Oct (Tue) – Fussen Area – Neuschwanstein – Salzburg
Continue into the heart of the Bavarian Alps to visit the most famous 19th-century, neo-romantic castle of the world, King Ludwig II’s fairytale NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE. Also visit the MUSEUM OF THE BAVARIAN KINGS. Arrive in Mozart’s hometown, Salzburg. Dinner is included tonight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 7 – 16 Oct (Wed) – Salzburg
Join your Local Guide for a walking tour through the historical center. Admire MIRABELL GARDENS, SALZBURG CATHEDRAL, the Great Festival Hall, St. Peter’s Monastery, and magnificent RESIDENZ SQUARE, where some scenes of the Sound of Music movie were filmed, and take pictures of Mozart’s Birthplace in the charming Getreidegasse. Day 8 – 17 Oct (Thu) – Salzburg – Mondsee – Vienna
Visit the PARISH CHURCH in Mondsee, which was used for the wedding scenes in The Sound of Music. Then, something quite different: enjoy a CRUISE on the Danube River, taking in the beautiful Wachau region. Arrive in Vienna, once the center of the mighty Habsburg Empire. (Breakfast)
Day 9 – 18 Oct (Fri) – Vienna
Enjoy the included sightseeing tour with a Local Guide the famous Ringstrasse, State Opera, Parliament, and the Town Hall. Stop for a stroll in Heroes’ Square to view the Hofburg. Also visit
MARIENKIRCHE CHURCH and the Shrine of St. Clement Hofbauer at CHURCH MARIA AM GESTADE. Celebrate your final evening with a special farewell dinner with a traditional Austrian dinner with drinks at a typical restaurant. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 10 – 19 Oct (Sat) – Departure from Vienna
a group transfer is provided to the Vienna airport for your flight home. (Breakfast)
