🎶 Friends Trip to the Nashville Area: A Perfect Blend of History, Charm & Friendship 🎶
Travel is magical, but sharing it with old or new friends makes the experience truly unforgettable! Recently, I joined a friends trip to the Nashville area with a few dear friends I’ve known for 60 years. Spread across the US, we make it a point to reunite every few years, and this trip was just what the doctor ordered.
To escape the hustle and bustle and crowds of downtown Nashville, our group of four chose to stay in the peaceful town of Brentwood, about 15 miles south of the city. The Aberdeen Inn was the perfect spot—quiet, charming, and private. We loved that the inn had four fabulous main-floor rooms so we could be close but still have our own space. Plus, a cozy common sitting area where we gathered for drinks and laughter each evening.
Our days were filled with exploring two fantastic nearby historical gems: Franklin and Leipers Fork.
Franklin’s deep Civil War history is captivating, particularly the 1864 Battle of Franklin, which resulted in more than 10,000 casualties. You can visit numerous sites that bring history to life. Franklin’s Main Street, established in 1799, is the lively heart of the city with lovely shops and restaurants. Don’t miss dining at Gray’s—those bacon-wrapped figs are a delicious treat! We also enjoyed The Factory, a former stove factory just a mile from downtown, now transformed into a vibrant complex of shops, eateries, and live music venues.
Just 8 miles from Franklin is Leipers Fork, a quaint, quirky village filled with charming antique shops, delightful restaurants, and the Leipers Fork Distillery. We toured the distillery and, of course, sampled some fine bourbon and whisky that made tempting souvenirs. (Pro tip: avoid visiting Leipers Fork on Mondays or Tuesdays, as many businesses are closed.)
Of course, no trip to the area would be complete without a taste of Nashville’s legendary music scene. The city is brimming with charm and countless attractions. We capped off our adventure with a memorable night at the Grand Ole Opry—an absolute must if you’re in town. Booking tickets ahead of time is highly recommended. For a hearty, budget-friendly meal, Monell’s is a winner—family-style all-you-can-eat for just $16.95 in a historic setting near the vibrant Nashville Farmers Market.
One tip from our trip: skip the Hop On Hop Off trolley. At $69 per person and with traffic delays that limit downtown stops after 3:30 PM, it just wasn’t worth it for us.
For those who would prefer to stay right in Nashville, I highly recommend exploring one of its charming bed & breakfasts. Favorites include Urban Cowboy, Germantown Inn, and Caroline House Nashville Historic Inn—all offering cozy, comfortable stays with a touch of local flavor.
Traveling with friends, exploring history, and savoring local flavors made this Nashville trip truly special. If you’re thinking about a getaway with friends, the Nashville area offers a perfect mix of history, music, and laid-back Southern charm.
