Some cruises are more than a vacation — they feel like a journey through time. Sailing from Athens to Venice aboard the Norwegian Pearl gave us the perfect mix of ancient history, stunning blue water, and timeless European charm. Traveling in May was ideal, with mild weather and a different port to explore almost every day. One of my favorite things about sailing with Norwegian is the Freestyle approach — no set dinner times, no strict dress codes, just the freedom to enjoy every moment your way. Though Norwegian Cruise Line offers many excursion choices, we often find smaller groups and more unique choices at very competitive prices with our preferred travel partner, Shore Excursions Groups. ![]()
Highlights from the journey:
Greece: Athens and Mykonos .... We started with a pre-cruise night at the Athens Cypria Hotel, which I highly recommend. Visiting the Parthenon and Acropolis right after arrival was an incredible way to begin the trip. Mykonos was every bit as dreamy as expected, with its whitewashed lanes, famous windmills, and postcard-perfect views.
Katakolon and Corfu ....Katakolon gave us access to the ancient ruins of Olympia, while Corfu surprised us with its lush scenery and relaxed island feel. Touring Paleokastritsa and the sea caves was a real highlight.

Kotor, Montenegro ....Sailing into the Bay of Kotor was unforgettable. The mountains rise straight out of the water, and the medieval old town is full of charm and history.
Split and Koper ...Split was a great mix of old and new, with Diocletian’s Palace right in the middle of the city. Koper, Slovenia, was quieter and more relaxed — a lovely contrast before heading to our final stop.
Italy.....Ending in Venice made the trip feel complete. We stayed at the All’ Angelo Art Hotel, just steps from St. Mark’s Square, which was the perfect post-cruise location. Touring Doge’s Palace and ending the journey with a sunset gondola ride was the perfect finale. A gondola ride is truly a must in Venice. ![]()
This cruise is a fantastic way to see Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy all in one trip. You unpack once, visit unforgettable ports, and finish in one of the most magical cities in the world. If I were planning this itinerary again, I’d recommend arriving in Athens 1 to 2 days early and staying in Venice 1 to 2 days after the cruise.
